EPS Technical Specifications

RESISTANCE TO HEAT

EPS plates provide high heat insulation. (Xhesap=0,033-0,044W/mK). Flash point of EPS is 360-370 C. Its self-flammable ambient temperature needs to reach 490 C. Amount of gas released as a result of burning of EPS is less than many materials used every building such as wood. Its resistance to heat depends on degree and duration of temperature. Though resistance of EPS material is durable to 100 C in short term period, it may be used maximum 75-85 C & minimum – 185 C depending on density of material on long-term period.

EPS AND BURNING STATE:

EPS has two main types:

a) Normal flammables (B2)

b) Barely flammables (B1)

It is made use of German DIN 4102 norm in classifications conducted in relation with burning state of structural materials. Flame is required to contact directly material in specific period in order for these materials of B1 class to catch fire. When flame is kept away, material is extinguished by itself.

EPS material in high quality with B1 class 26 kf/m2 density is used in Flexypan brand products.

HEAT CONDUCTIVITY:

Calculation value of EPS plates heat conductivity varies between 0.033-0.040 W/mK. As density increases, heat conductivity decreases. Heat conductivity of EPS is provided as 0,034 kcal/mhc in compliance with the standards stipulated by Turkish Standards Institution. Since heading gas used in production of EPS heat insulation plates displaces very rapidly with air, heat conductivities of EPS heat conductivity plates reach its ultimate value following production and do not deteriorate in time; any change which shall affect thermal resistance in their density is not witnessed when they are used in densities which application thereon requires. That heat conductivities and thermal resistances of EPS heat insulating plates remain stable during their use period is the most important advantage.

RATE OF WATER ABSORPTION:

Effective size of materials over rate of water absorption is the fact that pores are open or closed. Rates of water absorption of closed pored materials in contact with directly water are very low and EPS is closed pored material. Because Styrene composing EPS is water insoluble structure, walls of closed pores do not conduct water. Even if it contacts with direct water since its water absorption rate is very low, its properties do not change. In addition to this, if we consider that EPS shall not entirely remain within water in long term period in any building, it might be stated that it is watertight.

LIFETIME:

EPS is a material of endless use period. If EPS is applied in line with structural physics and construction guidelines in right plate and right quality and accurate thickness and density, depletion of material is no way possible.

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND PRESSURE STRENGTH:

It has pressure strength. As density increases, pressure increases, too. It is not fragile. One of the crucial properties of EPS is its mechanical durability demonstrated against short and long-term loadings. Mechanical properties of EPS heat insulating plates are in sufficiency which shall reveal resistance with accomplishment against mechanical effects which a building may face under normal conditions. In addition to this, as density increases, sliding, bending and tensile strengths of EPS plates increase, too. Elasticity modulus (E) of EPS is between 0,6-3,1 MPa. EPS heat insulating plates may be classified in line with SIO values and bending resistances in international platform. Tensile strength vertical to surface of EPS heat insulating products varies between 20 kPa and 400 kPa.
